A plat map is a scaled drawing that shows how a piece of land is divided. It outlines property boundaries, lot dimensions, streets, easements, rights-of-way, and sometimes utility locations within a subdivision or parcel. It is recorded with the county and used as part of the legal description of a property.
Plat maps are typically kept by the County Register of Deeds or Land Records office, and copies may also be held by the property owner, closing attorney, surveyor, HOA (if applicable), or your local planning department.
To get a copy of your plat map:
